We offer a relaxed, informal approach to piano instruction at Rockphonix. We are not a traditional music school and do not follow a set curriculum. Our teachers are chosen for their expertise, industry experience, and enthusiasm. They will assist you in developing not only technical skills but also the confidence to progress and perform.

Our piano students range in age from six years old and upwards. We constantly strive to keep lessons exciting and focused on the individual and their learning goals. For younger students, parents are welcome to sit in on sessions which can help them settle in the first few lessons.

Our piano lessons will help with: -


  • Fundamental Technique; piano lessons lay the groundwork for good hand positioning, finger coordination, and posture. Our teachers will lead you through exercises and drills to help you achieve technical mastery. These essential skills allow you to play with ease and fluidity, laying the groundwork for more complex works.
  • Music Theory and Sight-Reading; musicians who are familiar with music theory even at a basic level presents significant benefits. Piano lessons bring you into contact with the world of notes, chords, scales, and key signatures. You will also study sight-reading, which will allow you to perform unfamiliar music confidently and swiftly. Music theory and sight-reading skills broaden your musical understanding and open doors to other musical genres.
  • Repertoire Expansion; through our lessons we will expose you to a wide range of musical styles and works. The piano has a vast repertoire to explore, ranging from classical masterpieces to contemporary hits. As you go, you will be able to select works that correspond to your musical preferences, widening your horizons and enriching your understanding of music.
  • Expressive Playing; you'll learn how to express yourself via music by instilling emotions in your performance. You'll learn methods like dynamics, articulation, and pedal control that will let you to express a wide range of emotions via your music. Expressive playing allows you to connect on a deeper level with the music as well as your audience.
  • Improvisation and Composition; piano lessons foster spontaneity and creativity. You will get the opportunity to experiment with melodies and create your own musical compositions while learning different improvisational approaches. These encounters not only build your confidence but also help you develop your own musical voice.
  • Ensemble and Collaborative Playing; playing in groups or duets is an important component of piano lessons. Collaborative playing improves your capacity to listen to and adapt to the performances of other musicians, developing teamwork and musical sensitivity. These experiences also provide opportunities for group performances in which you can demonstrate your abilities in a supportive environment.
  • Performance Confidence; if you're keen to play in front of others we can provide opportunities to perform in public through our showcases. These activities assist you in overcoming stage fear, developing poise, and presenting your music with confidence and flair. The sense of accomplishment that comes from performing in front of an audience improves self-confidence and pushes you to keep improving.

Where to Find Us in Kidderminster

Our Kidderminster studio is located at 184 Franche Road, just a couple of doors down from Spar/Greggs, making it super easy to spot. We’re only a 5-minute walk from the town centre and around 10 minutes from Kidderminster Train Station, so getting here is simple whether you’re travelling by foot, car, or public transport.

Parking is available at the premises and the studio entrance is clearly signposted. When you arrive, just head inside and your tutor will welcome you.

  • What do you charge for lessons?

    We offer a number of pricing options - the choice of which often depends on the regularity of lessons. Please click here for more information.

  • What is your approach to teaching piano?

    Rockphonix is not a traditional music school in that our approach to teaching is largely informal based on the aspirations of the student.


    We still like to create lesson plans and a structured  learning plan however this will be created in conjunction with your teacher and is unique to every student.


    So whether you are a complete beginner or you've been playing a while we can help.

  • Where are you located in Kidderminster?

    The Rockphonix Kidderminster premises is located at First Floor, Rear Burgage Lodge, 184 Franche Rd, Kidderminster DY11 5AD. We are next to the Spar/Greggs on the roundabout. The entrance is located to the rear of the property.


    Please note that unfortunately it is stairs access only to the teaching rooms.

  • Do you teach piano to beginners?

    We absolutely teach those who are entirely new to playing piano! Even if you've never sat in front of a keyboard before, it does not matter.


    Our teachers are accustomed to working with students of all ability levels.

  • What ages do your piano lessons cater for?

    Piano lessons are ideal for younger ages and budding musicians. We teach students of all ages, from around 7 years old to 65 and above.


    Whether you have a little legend wanting to have fun or you're a more mature student looking to learn a new skill, we're sure our teachers can help you.

  • Do I need my own piano at home?

    While of course it helps to be able to practice outside of lesson time, it is not essential. The teachers are great at setting excercies to keep you busy at home even if you don't own your own piano or keyboard.

  • Do you cater for formal piano exams?

    For those looking for more formal learning we have teamed up with Trinity College London to offer their Rock and Pop exams.


    Trinity’s Rock and Pop music exams are all about performance and whether you’re just learning as a hobby or you're looking to become a music maestro, they are a great way of achieving your music grades whilst playing music you know and love.


    They can help you learn essential skills in your chosen instrument and are a great way of learning for those who really want to get stuck in. They also count towards UCAS points for A-Level and college students looking to head to university.

  • When are your business hours?

    The time of your lesson will depend on both yours and your teacher's availability. We recommend booking a regular slot if possible.


    Our teachers are often flexible in their availability right up to 8pm at night.


    Our reception is open Tuesday to Saturday 11am to 3pm so please do feel free to call in. Outside of these times please email us all leave a message.
