Worcester Student Showcase Easter 2026

On Saturday 19th April, we brought together around 20 of our students for our Easter Showcase at Spin the Black Circle Cafe—and what a day it turned out to be. The room was packed with energy from the start. Friends, family and fellow students gathered to support a lineup that perfectly captured what Rockphonix is all about: real progress, real confidence, and real music. A Mix of Instruments and Styles

We had performances across vocals, drums and keys, with each student bringing their own personality and sound to the stage. From first-time performers taking those brave initial steps, to more experienced students refining their craft, every performance had something special. One of the highlights was seeing a couple of our mini bands take to the stage—combining guitar, vocals and drums. These moments really showcased what can happen when students move beyond individual lessons and start making music together.

Building Confidence Through Performance

Live performance is a huge part of the Rockphonix journey. It’s where everything comes together—practice turns into expression, and nerves turn into confidence. For many of our students, this was their first time playing in front of an audience. That moment of stepping up, starting the song, and seeing it through is something that sticks with them far beyond the day itself.

A Brilliant Atmosphere

Spin the Black Circle was the perfect setting—intimate, welcoming, and full of character. It created a relaxed environment where students could focus on enjoying the experience rather than feeling under pressure. The support from the audience made a massive difference too. Every performance was met with encouragement, applause, and genuine appreciation.

Building confidence, creativity, and teamwork through music

Last night we had the absolute pleasure of running a Rockphonix music workshop with WF11 Harkaway Scouts , and honestly what a group!

From the moment we set up, the energy in the room was spot on. Curiosity, excitement, and a willingness to jump in and give things a go… exactly what Rockphonix is all about.

Music as a Confidence Builder

The aim of these workshops isn’t perfection, it’s confidence .
We use music as a tool to help young people:

Try something new
Work together
Be heard
Feel proud of what they create

And last night, that happened in buckets.

Whether it was picking up an instrument for the first time, keeping time together as a group, or just finding the courage to make some noise, everyone brought something to the room.

I'm Marcus , and I’ve spent over 20 years in music retail and industry distribution. Music has always been at the heart of everything I do – not just selling gear, but building connections, fostering talent, and helping people grow through sound.

Rich, my co-founder, has also spent 20+ years in his field – but in software development. A passionate guitar player (and die-hard Bruce Springsteen fan), Rich brings technical vision and digital innovation to the table. He’s building bespoke software tailored specifically for how Rockphonix operates – and how it will scale.

Our mix of creative and technical expertise is what makes this such a powerful opportunity for future franchisees.

Our Third Rockphonix Live Event Lifts the Roof!

Our student showcase was back, bigger than ever this year. Featuring the talents of our vocal, guitar, drum and piano students. On Sunday 8th September, we took the stage at Spin the Black Circle in Worcester with our biggest turnout of performers and audience to date. Also this year, for the first time we saw a full band performance with drums, vocals, guitar and keys all on stage.

Organised and run by our vocal coach Theone Dawes, our Live events give our students the opportunity to perform in a public. The events are incredibly supportive, designed to allow students to be on stage with as little pressure as possible.

Summer Music Classes for Children

As well as our one-to-one private music tuition , throughout the Summer of 2024 we will be hosting a number of group classes for children aged between 9 and 16 . The aim of each session is to encourage musical collaboration and learning to accompany others.

Each group will be limited to 3-4 children and last two hours. We will be arranging pop/rock songs with a variety of instruments including guitar, drums, bass, piano, vocals etc.

The price will be £25 per student for each two hour session they wish to attend.

Back with a new venue for 2024 our first showcase of the year demonstrated the talents of our vocal students here at Rockphonix. Our showcases are a great opportunity for students to gain experience performing in front of others - and they didn't let us down!

For three hours on Saturday evening we were treated to an amazing range of talents including some inspiring original songs written by the students themselves.

Rockphonix Student Showcase, June 11th, The Firefly Worcester

What a great night! It was amazing to see so many Rockphonix students turn out for our inaugural student showcase. With nerves all round to begin with (mostly teachers) everyone soon settled in. For our students it offered great experience of performing in front of others. We had big turnout on the night as people packed out the top floor of the Firefly.

For the teachers and the Rockphonix team, it was hugely rewarding to see how far our students have come and the performances on the night were amazing!

Thank you to Theone, our vocal coach for arranging the location organising the event. Feedback has been really positive and we hope to organise similar events in the future. Rockphonix Summer Student Showcase 2023

Join Us at the Firefly in Worcester on June 11, 5pm-9pm

We're proud to present our first showcase highlighting the talents and skills of our wonderful students. The event is open to all - even if you don't feel ready to perform it's a great opportunity to meet like-minded individuals.

Our Summer showcase is the perfect way for students to gain valuable experience and build confidence when performing live in a relaxed, friendly and supportive environment. We'll have everything required available on the night, mics, drum kit, keys, amps and PA. We're just asking guitarists and bassists to bring their own guitars for ease.

The event is being run by our vocal coach Theone Dawes who along with other Rockphonix team members will be present on the evening to offer support and accompany students when performing. We're aiming for the night to be a laid back and casual affair with absolutely no pressure! We're hoping to get as many students, parents and friends as possible along to make the evening a success.

If you're looking to perform please let your teacher know and also drop us a quick message so we can be prepared.

So do please come along on the 11th June between 5pm and 9pm to lend your support. We've hired the second floor of the Firefly so you'll find us there from 5pm onwards. If you're not familiar with the Firefly it's located in the Lowesmoor area of Worcester, there is parking nearby in the Cornmarket or St Martins Gate as well as limited short-term parking in Lowesmoor itself. Recording Guitar Directly to a Mac or PC via DAW

What is Direct Recording?

Recording guitar directly means capturing the sound of the guitar directly into a recording device or computer, rather than using a microphone to pick up the sound from an amplifier.

What is Required to Record Guitar Directly?

Here are the basics for recording guitar directly to your Mac or PC:

A Guitar(!) and Cables

OK so this is obvious but it's worth noting that to plug directly without use of a separate microphone you'll need an output jack on the guitar (typically 1/4" standard). The choice of guitar will ultimately depend on your personal preference and the sound you are trying to achieve. Also, keep in mind that if you're using an electric guitar, you may want to use amp simulation software or pedals to help shape your tone.

An Audio Interface

To record the guitar directly, you will need an audio interface. An audio interface is a device that connects to a computer or other recording device and allows you to record and play back audio. It typically has one or more inputs for connecting microphones, instruments, or other audio sources, and one or more outputs for connecting speakers, headphones, or other audio devices.

Audio interfaces can vary in their features and capabilities, such as the number of inputs and outputs, the type of connection, and the quality of the converters and preamps. Choosing the right audio interface for your needs can make a big difference in the quality of your recordings and the ease of your workflow. At Rockphonix we use the Focusrite series of interfaces - for everyday recording they are a great choice. Connect the guitar to the audio interface using a guitar cable.

Recording Software (known as a DAW)

A DAW, or Digital Audio Workstation is a software application used for recording, editing, and producing audio. DAWs are widely used in music production, sound design, podcasting, and other audio-related industries.

A DAW provides a platform for recording and editing audio, including the ability to record multiple audio tracks, mix them together, and add effects and processing. It allows users to work with virtual instruments and MIDI controllers, which can be used to create music and other types of audio content.

Some popular DAWs include:

GarageBand: A great, easy to use DAW and free with Mac devices.
Pro Tools: A widely used DAW in the music and audio industries.
Logic Pro: A popular DAW for Mac users, known for its user-friendly interface and built-in software instruments.
Ableton Live: A DAW used for electronic music production and live performance.
FL Studio: A DAW used for beat-making and electronic music production.
Cubase: A DAW used in professional music production and audio post-production for film and TV.

DAWs have become increasingly accessible and affordable in recent years, with many free and low-cost options available for beginners and hobbyists. With a DAW, users can create and manipulate audio with precision, making it an essential tool for anyone working with audio. If you're just getting started and utilise a Mac device GarageBand is a great choice and has many features common to its professional counterpart Logic Pro.

The process then becomes a relatively straightforward case of:

Selecting the input channel on the audio interface that corresponds to the guitar input. The number of guitar inputs an audio interface has can vary depending on the specific model and brand. Some audio interfaces have one guitar input, while others may have multiple inputs that can accommodate several guitars or other instruments. For example, entry-level audio interfaces such as the Focusrite Scarlett Solo and PreSonus AudioBox iOne typically have one XLR microphone input and one 1/4-inch guitar input. Mid-range audio interfaces like the Universal Audio Apollo Twin MKII or the Apogee Duet may have two or more guitar inputs, as well as additional inputs for microphones, keyboards, or other instruments. High-end audio interfaces such as the RME Fireface UFX+ may have up to 12 guitar inputs, depending on the specific model.
Setting the level: Adjust the level on the audio interface to ensure that the signal is not clipping or distorting.
Arming the track: Arm the track in the recording software to enable recording.
Record: Hit the record button in the recording software and start playing your guitar.
Monitor: Use headphones or speakers to monitor the sound as you record.
Edit: After recording, you can edit the track by adjusting the volume, adding effects, or editing the timing.

It's important to note that the quality of the recording will depend on the quality of the audio interface and the recording software used.
